Christmas Dinner at Wangary

(Early) Christmas Dinner

Christmas came early, and what a great day it was as Lincoln Auto Club members celebrated at the Marble Range Community and Sports Centre.

The majority of attendees congregated in Whirly’s car park on the morning of the 27th November in readiness for the cruise to Wangary.  It was the beginning of a beautiful day weather-wise, and the feeling indicated a very sociable time ahead.

What hadn’t been foreseen, was that the silos were open, and empty grain trucks hurriedly heading out of town for the next load, found it quite frustrating being held up by a tottering Morris and Austin or two!  Never mind, that’s part of sharing the road.  On the other hand, a Monaro, Mustang and a Corvette were probably frustrated by being held up by a grain truck or two!

By the time we had converged on Wangary there were 30 classic vehicles, a fair selection of stylish moderns, and 84 members looking forward to Christmas lunch.

The vehicles made for an impressive line-up on the oval.  The bar was popular for pre lunch drinks and the clubroom was beautifully decked out in the Christsmas theme, with a beautiful Christmas tree, and a ceiling covered in decorations.

Many thanks must go to the Marble Range Community and Sports Club for their hospitality, particularly the ladies in the kitchen for a beautiful Christmas luncheon.  No elves went away hungry.  Thanks also to Mark Wright and Rick Price whose planning many months ago set the whole thing up.  Rick was joined by Elaine in the final stages and the Price’s efforts with the (free) raffle type prizes throughout the afternoon added a Christmas gift feel.  Well done.

The lucky recipients were Kevin Burner with a $20 bar voucher, (still looking forward to the benefit of that Kevin), Roly Binns with a quality chamois, (only works on cars Roly, not aeroplanes), and Alma Howell with the fuel voucher provided by a Sponsor of the day, Jim and Jill McGuire of Eyre Fuels.

Ho! Ho! Ho!, ’twas a very merry start to the Christmas season.  Thank you to all the Lincoln Auto Club members who participated on the day for making it so.
